Ep. 9 - HORRORS OF THE RED PLANET - Ghosts On The Big Brown Couch
After making the mistake of leaving the safety of their haunted apartment, the Ghosts now find themselves in unbelievable (and mainly offscreen) danger. Still, in spite of the disappearance of Dori and Catherine, Babs and Johnny remain blissfully ignorant (not an unusual state for Johnny). They sit in the Four Shadow Theater, unaware of the peril, but QUITE aware that they're taking in a really goofy sci-fi movie, HORRORS OF THE RED PLANET.
1965's HORRORS OF THE RED PLANET (which is the Public Domain retitling of THE WIZARD OF MARS) has all the qualities that David L. Hewitt films are famous for. That is to say, it has an almost-complete ABSENCE of quality. If you like long walking scenes and phoned-in John Carradine cameos, though, this is your lucky day!
Could it get any better, you ask? Well, it just might, as guest star Mr. Lobo, host of the long-running CINEMA INSOMNIA, appears on the scene. In fact, he appears quite frequently and unexpectedly, interrupting Babs and Johnny's riffing to throw in a few of his own wisecracks.
This episode makes up the second chapter of an epic GHOSTS ON THE BIG BROWN COUCH tale that may change the lives of Johnny and the Ghosts forever... Cue ominous music, please.
Note: We're proud to say that GHOSTS ON THE BIG BROWN COUCH is now featured on Mr. Lobo's Roku channel OSI74. Go there to see some of the older GOTBBC episodes, not to mention CINEMA INSOMNIA, Mr. Lobo's long-running movie program.
